The UK’s rivers are in crisis. They are home to chemicals and pathogens that impact health and lead to conditions like norovirus, rotavirus, E. coli and hepatitis. Swimming in a UK river means a 1 in 2 chance of getting sick.

To address this, FCB Health London partnered with The Rivers Trust to sell the world’s most expensive bath bomb. Listed on eBay at £300,000 a set, “Toxic Dips,” the world’s most expensive bath bombs, represent 0.005% of the total estimated amount (£5.4 billion) needed to prevent UK rivers from deteriorating further over the next five years. The eBay listing links to a website offering further information about “Toxic Dips” and the environmental challenges that inspired the campaign.

The bath bombs themselves are inspired by three of the UK’s most polluted waterways – Tainted Tamar, Septic Severn and Rancid Roding. Each Toxic Dip bath bomb contains the same unique mixture of raw sewage, pesticides, microplastics, urban waste and fertilizers as its namesake river, immersing people in the contaminated reality of the UK’s waterways and driving awareness of The Rivers’ Trust’s 2024 report on UK river health.

With a 78% increase in visits to theriverstrust.org and the report making appearances on the news and in UK parliament, the campaign is helping to turn the tide on water pollution.
