The Weber Shandwick Collective partnered with Interpublic’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Impact team to host “Let’s Talk Neurodiversity at Work,” an event organized by TWSC’s equitABLE BRG, a business resource group for employees with and caregivers of those with physical and mental disabilities and chronic illnesses. The session explored how cultivating, retaining and nurturing a neurodiverse workplace creates a more successful workforce.
The event featured Peter Shankman, founder of SOS and author of Faster Than Normal: Turbocharge Your Focus, Productivity, and Success with the Secrets of the ADHD Brain, and Dr. Jen Hartstein, psychologist, and founder of Hartstein Psychological Services. Both guests co-founded Mental Capital, a consultancy that helps companies attract, hire, and retain neurodiverse employees, while also creating neuroinclusive workspaces.
“Neurodiversity in all of its forms contributes to an innovative, creative and problem-solving environment that is higher functioning than a non-neurodiverse workplace,” said Shankman.
To achieve a neuroinclusive workplace in which the nuance of neurodivergence is celebrated, Hartstein said that companies must listen to and engage with their employees and create psychologically safe spaces.
