Following devastating floods in Belgium, Happiness Brussels and Canon launched the “ReStory” campaign to help contribute to the emotional recovery in affected regions. The floods, which swept Belgium in July, were some of the worst in the region’s history. The material damage caused by the deluge was enormous, affecting houses, cars, and furniture. In Wallonia, Belgium, excessive rains caused the Vesdre, Ourthe and Meuse rivers to overflow, and the huge quantities of water that the rivers carried washed everything away: lives were taken, hundreds of thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed, and 12,000 cars were damaged.

Photos were destroyed throughout Belgium by the sudden and rapid flooding as well, taking a great emotional toll on their owners. With the support of Canon, the “ReStory” project aims to restore as many photos as possible, contributing a small but important piece to the recovery process.
