ESG Reporting

Since 2015, IPG has published sustainability reports utilizing the GRI framework—and we were the first U.S.-based holding company to do so. In 2021, IPG was the first company globally to publish a SASB Report using the Advertising & Marketing Standards. We also utilize the TCFD recommendations and respond to CDP. We are committed to publishing an annual communication on progress for the UN Global Compact.

Sustainable Development Goals

We have adopted SDG 6, access to water and sanitation, as part of our role in Common Ground, the initiative that brings together the largest holding companies in the advertising and marketing sector in support of the SDGs.

Sustainability and Purpose Results

Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America
In 2023, IPG was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), North America for the fourth year, in recognition of its commitment to sustainable business practices. The DJSI North America tracks the performance of leading companies in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. The ranking provides stakeholders, including investors, insight into corporate sustainability practices considered critical for generating long-term societal and shareholder value. This index recognizes the top 20% of sustainability performers among the 600 largest U.S. and Canadian companies. IPG is the only advertising holding company named to this prestigious list.

charity: water
As part of our commitment to the United Nations SDG 6, access to water and sanitation, IPG has partnered with charity: water on several initiatives that bring water to those in need. IPG is supporting a piped system with a tap stand in Ethiopia, which will help provide 400 people with access to clean water. We have fully funded a drilled well for an entire community in Tigray, Ethiopia, and a rehabilitated well with a hand pump there that provides water to nearly 200 people. In addition, our employees have contributed to the cause, bringing clean water to hundreds of people around the world.

Measuring Our Impact and Setting Goals for Reduction
IPG is measuring its energy use and emissions, and we have committed to several climate action targets including: reaching net-zero carbon across our business by 2040, sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030, and our science-based targets of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 (2019 baseline); and reducing Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030 (2019 baseline). IPG measures its emissions and other environmental impacts using GHG Protocol Corporate Standards at all of its buildings in its global portfolio.
