As healthcare workers across the country brave the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19, personal protective equipment (PPE) is quickly becoming more scarce.  Companies and leaders are stepping up to the plate to make a difference and contribute what they can during these hard times. After hearing from customers that were taking initiative on their own, using their time at home to sew handmade, washable face masks for local hospitals, JOANN Stores realized the impact they could have by mobilizing their hundreds of thousands of customers who sew every day.  With the health and safety of employees and customers as a top priority, JOANN Stores across the country have started offering kits with free materials available for curbside pick-up for customers to make masks at home (coupled with a how-to video tutorial), and use of their facilities in-stores (max of 10 people).

The Golin team has been spreading the word to build awareness for the initiative and earn attention for JOANN – with media coverage spanning national, local outlets and social media. Since the initial announcement was made, several retailers including Neiman Marcus, have jumped on board to contribute to JOANN’s efforts by offering use of their alterations facilities to increase production of PPE. The word continues to spread as media and consumers empower the rest of the country to contribute what they can at a time when we don’t have control. To date, the brand estimates several million masks and counting have been produced for donation.
