According to the 2021 BoF500, only 4% of the most influential people in the fashion industry are Latinx. This gap in diversity can be directly linked to – and exacerbated by – a lack of access to funding and visible leadership, which perpetuates challenges of mobility and representation for the Latinx community in the fashion world.
As part of an effort to address this gap, The Martin Agency and UPS returned to NYFW alongside prominent Latinx designer Angelo Baque with a limited-edition streetwear collection to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. The creative partnership with Baque, who is the founder of Awake NY and former Brand Director of Supreme, aims to celebrate Hispanic community and culture with a one-of-a-kind bodega experience that features curated merch from Latinx fashion designers and small businesses.
The profits from the collaboration, plus an additional $50,000 in grants, will go to New York City’s High School of Fashion Industries to fund a scholarship program for the next generation of Latinx fashion designers and entrepreneurs.
