Tom Cunningham

Senior Vice President, Global Communications

In his role overseeing communications for IPG, Tom acts as the spokesperson for the public company, and helps craft and influence public understanding and perception of the company, including its strategic priorities, leadership transitions, acquisitions, financial performance, and ESG programs. Tom also works closely with key corporate departments on public-facing programs, including investor relations, human resources, and diversity and inclusion.

During recent years, Tom has played a significant role in major corporate efforts at IPG, including its transformational acquisition of Acxiom; its multi-year leadership position on gender equality; developing the company’s digital and social channels; launching internal collaboration programs for the broader IPG network, and oversight of the company’s corporate sustainability activities.

Tom is a senior communications executive with expertise in corporate communications, internal communications, media relations, digital and social media, ESG reporting, inclusion initiatives, business continuity planning, and crisis management. He began his career in New York as a journalist at SPY magazine. Tom’s first job in the advertising industry was at Y&R in the agency’s communications department, where he helped build the agency’s first website.

Tom is a long-serving board member of The Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, New York City’s largest emergency feeding program, and is active in the arts community, having served on the board of the Transport Group, an off-Broadway not-for-profit theater company.
