“Money Talks: The Youth Tax” is a new research initiative from UM, MoneySuperMarket and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), exploring how the cost-of-living crisis is affecting young adults’ financial wellbeing and mental health.

As the cost of essentials like food, energy and rent continues to rise, financial pressure is reshaping daily life and taking a heavy toll on the mental health of young adults. With 1 in 4 young people in debt — and 1 in 10 of those experiencing suicidal thoughts — the findings highlight the urgent need to break the stigma around money struggles and expand the support available to young people.
