Company Continues to Expand Measurement of GHG Emissions

New York, NY – March 29, 2019 – Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) announced today that the company has issued a new sustainability report, its fourth utilizing the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Framework, and its first utilizing the new GRI Standards. GRI is the international independent standards organization that helps businesses and governments understand, track and communicate their impacts on issues such as climate change and human rights, and is the most widely used comprehensive sustainability reporting standard in the world.

“Each year, IPG works to strengthen its commitment to sustainability,” commented Michael Roth, Chairman and CEO, IPG. “This means conducting our business ethically, and in a manner that is in sync with the long-term health of the environment, improving the communities where our employees live and work, and ensuring that our company is as diverse and inclusive as possible,” he continued. “Reporting with the GRI framework enables our clients, investors and employees to track our company’s progress on environmental, social and governance issues using the world’s most accepted standard. Our ongoing commitment to sustainability enhances our business, our reputation, and helps us to attract and retain top talent who share our values.”

In 2015, IPG began its first formal measurement of emissions and other environmental impacts using Green House Gas Protocol Standards. This year, we expanded the measurement of our emissions and other environmental impacts using GHG Protocol Corporate Standards to include all buildings globally over 50,000 square feet. The boundary was expanded from last year’s which included all of North America over 50,000 square feet, and select buildings in the UK and France. This expanded boundary as of the end of 2017 now includes 48% of our worldwide headcount (up from 37%) and 53% of our worldwide square footage (up from 45%). Also this year, for the first time, IPG has set a relative intensity target for reduction, a Scope 2 target for 10% reduction by 2030 in metric tons CO2e per employee.

IPG and its agencies are committed to corporate social responsibility. IPG has adopted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #6, access to water and sanitation for all, and the company recently funded a rehabilitated well with a hand pump in Ethiopia, where more than 60 million people lack access to safe water.

IPG’s GRI Report is accessible via the company’s website, and includes topics that cover environmental responsibility, fair labor practices and support for human rights. In addition to the GRI report, IPG also publishes and frequently updates hundreds of sustainability case studies from its agencies around the world as well as its corporate office. These are housed on the company’s sustainability page of its website, and include highlights of the company’s work on topics that include women’s empowermentveterans’ issues and the importance of handwashing in saving lives.
